The history of Vrinda Kund dates back nearly five thousand years when Lord Krishna and his companions concluded their earthly pastimes. The great-grandson of Lord Krishna, King Vajranabh, installed Krishna's deity throughout the Vraja region. Even in Vrinda Kund, divine manifestations took place. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu himself initiated the excavation of lost pilgrimage sites in Vraja with the help of Srila Rupa Goswami. He visited the Chhappan Kunds, including Vrinda Kund and Gupt Kund.
Among the eight Yog Peethas (holy sites of pastimes) in Braj, Gupt Kund is the first one, situated just behind this temple. In Braj, Radha is the queen and Krishna is the king, and Vrinda Devi is considered the leader of all their Lilas.
